Bring the companion alongside an HTML form.

The Chrome extension recognizes supported W-4 field labels after you click its icon. Browser PDF viewers and unrecognized fields are not supported.

Load the Chrome extension

  1. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome.
  2. Enable Developer mode, then choose Load unpacked.
  3. Select the project’s public/companion folder.
  4. Set the extension’s Connection settings to your deployed ClearStep address.
  5. Open this practice page in Chrome, click the extension icon, then focus a field.

The extension requests temporary access when you click it. It sends only a known field ID—not form answers—to the local service.
